The Institute of Forensic Medicine in Hradec Králové was established in 1945. The first head of the institute was Prof.  Edward Knobloch, M.D. (1945– 1951). From 1951 to 1971, department was headed by Assoc. Prof. Jiři Beran, M.D., Ph.D. Between 1971–1995, the head of the institute was Prof. Milan Srch, M.D., Ph.D. Between 1996–2010, the head of the department was Assoc. Prof. Petr Hottmar, M.D. Ph.D. Since 2010, the head of the department is Ass. Prof. Petr Hejna, M.D., Ph.D., MBA.
