Science and Research


Science and research, together with clinical practice, expert service, and education, constitute one of four fundamental pillars of our department's work activities. Every year team members publish tens of publications and most of them in peer-reviewed journals with the impact factor. They also cooperate in several national and international scientific projects and participate in preparing professional book publications.

Scientific and research activities of the department are mainly focused on the following areas:
1. Environmental deaths due to temperature extremes. 
2. Wound ballistics.
3. Phenomenology of suicidal behavior. 
4. Postmortem diagnosis of strangling deaths and drowning. 
5. Sudden cardiovascular death. 
6. Medicolegal aspects of sudden infant death syndrome.
7. Application of advanced photographic, optical, and imaging methods in medicolegal practice.
8. Forensic anthropology and osteology. 
9. Specifics of language communication in forensic medicine.

At national level, our department chiefly cooperates with the academic-scientific and clinical departments of the Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové and University Hospital Hradec Králové as well as with Hradec Králové Emergency Medical Services. The department also develops extramural cooperation with allied forensic departments in the Czech Republic, Faculty of Science, Masaryk University in Brno, Institute of Criminology in Prague, and other partners. The most important national partners of our department include:

The department has established numerous international contacts with forensic institutes in Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Russia, India, and other countries. The subject of international cooperation is the sharing of expert and diagnostic experience and the preparation of joint projects and professional publications. The most important international partners of our department include:
